Fungsi Present Continuous Tense (disebut juga present progressive tense)
Kalimat present continuous digunakan untuk menyatakan suatu aktivitas yang sedang berlangsung. Misalnya, ‘I am reading a novel – saya sedang membaca novel’. Artinya, pada saat mengucapkan kalimat tersebut, si ‘saya’ sedang melakukan aktivitas membaca novel.

Pola Kalimat Present Continuous Tense
Pola kalimat pernyataan (positive sentences) adalah S Be –Ing (Subjek diikuti oleh be -ing).
Subjek bisa berupa kata benda (Joko, dogs, dll) atau kata ganti (I, he, she, dll).
Be terdiri dari am, is, dan are. Sedangkan –ing adalah kata kerja yang diimbuhi ing.
Pola kongkretnya adalah seperti berikut:
I am –ing.                                                        => I am eating.
He is –ing./ She is –ing. / It is –ing.               => He is eating. She is eating. It is eating.
They are –ing./ We are –ing. / You are –ing. => They are eating. We are eating. You are eating.
Detil lengkap pola kalimatnya adalah seperti dalam tabel berikut:

Cuma seperti itu. Easy, isn’t it? Eh iya, tapi, cara nambah ‘ing’ pada kata kerja ada aturannya lho. Tapi gampang juga kok… berikut ini caranya.

Aturan penambahan ing:
Pada kata kerja berakhiran 'e', hilangkan 'e', lalu tambahi ‘ing’:
Come => coming        write => writing       make => making
Pada kata kerja pendek, gandakan huruf terakhir, lalu tambahi 'ing':
Run => running          swim => swimming      cut => cutting                 
Pada kata kerja berakhiran 'ie', ganti ie dengan 'y', lalu tambahi 'ing':
Lie => lying                 die => dying
Pada kata kerja berakhiran ‘ee’, langsung tambahkan ‘ing’ :
agree => agreeingflee => fleeing

Tambahan lagi ya … (Hadooooh …! Kok nambah terus sih..?! Pusing tauuu..!)
Diiikiiit lagi. Begini. Kalimat-kalimat di atas bisa ditambahi kata keterangan waktu lho, yaitu ‘now’, ‘right now’, ‘today’, ‘this week’, ‘these days’, dan ‘at the moment’.
Contoh kalimat yang menggunakan keterangan waktu adalah:
1.      I’m doing my homework now.
2.      Susan is travelling to Papua this week.
Nah, itu saja penjelasan tentang cara membuat kalimat pernyataan present continuous. Gampang, kan? Pola kalimat penyangkalan (negative sentences) dan pertanyaan (interrogative) akan dibahas secara terpisah.
Nah, sekarang silakan berlatih dulu. Mudah sekali kok latihannya. Kalau tak percaya, coba saja.

A.    Imbuhilah kata kerja berikut dengan ‘ing’.

B.     Lengkapilah dengan ‘be’ dan kata kerja ‘ing’. Gunakan kata kerja di dalam kurung.

2.   (stand, wait)    Mario ___ _____ in the bus stop. He ___ _____ for a bus.
3.   (sit, read)         Jasmine ___ _____ on the sofa. She ___ _____ a novel.

5.   (run, play)       Steve and Mike ___ _____ in the field. They ___ _____ soccer.

C.      Lengkapilah dengan be (is, am, are) dan kata kerja ing di bawah ini.

1.      Hello, my Facebook fans! It’s Sunday today. I am stay at home now. Look, I’m carry a broom, a bucket and a mop. I’m clean the house and mop the floor. O, yeah, of course, I’m record this video, too. Just for you J. You’re watch me, right?
2.      My father is also stay at home. Look! He’s do some house chores, too. He’s hold a feather duster. He’s remove dust from books. Well, he’s a real bookworm! You know, he’s crazy about books. Hey, how about you? Are you a bookworm, too?
3.      My sister is also do activities at home. She’s tidy up her room. She’s take rubbish out. She’s also dust her books.
4.      My mother is in the kitchen. She’s cook breakfast and make fruit juice. Look, she’s cut potatoes and the vegetables.
5.      My grandfather is play hide and seek with my grandmother J.
