11. Simple Present Tense: negative sentences

Negative sentences alias kalimat penyangkalan adalah kalimat yang mengandung makna ‘tidak/bukan’. (Iiishh …, penjelasannya kok gini-gini aja sih …Kreatif dikit napa? L).

Cara membuatnya sangatlah mudah. Pola kalimat penyangkalan simple present tense hampir sama dengan kalimat pernyataan (positive sentences), hanya saja setelah subjek ditambahi do not atau does not. Lihat perbedaan kalimat pernyataan dan penyangkalan berikut ini:

            I drink coffee every day.                 => I don’t drink tea every day.

            Bob drinks coffee every day.         => Bob doesn’t drink tea every day.

Nah, gampang kan? Pola lebih lengkap dapat disimak di bawah ini:

1.      Setelah subjek they, we, I, you, kita tambahkan do not (= don’t).

2.      Setelah subjek he, she, it, kita tambahkan does not (= doesn’t). Dalam kalimat penyangkalan ini, kita TIDAK menggunakan imbuhan s/es pada kata kerja.

Easy, isn’t it? Sekarang silakan berlatih… Soal-soal latihanya mudah juga kok. Hanya bertujuan membiasakan penggunaan pola kalimat di atas dan menambah kosa kata.

A.    Lengkapilah dengan don’t atau doesn’t.

             1.          He ________ work in the office. He works at home. He’s a house husband!

             2.          Sonnia ________ sing pop songs. She sings rock songs. She has a strong voice.

             9.          The music ­________ sound nice to my ears. It’s too loud.

         10.          My neighbors ­________ go to sleep early. They like to have parties.

B.     Perlu imbuhan s/es atau tidak? Gunakan bentuk yang tepat. Lihat contoh.

             1.          (teach)           David doesn’t _teach_ English. He _teaches_ math.

             2.          (like)             My parents don’t _like_ spicy food. They _like_ chemistry.

             3.          (live)             We don’t ______ in an apartment. We ______ in a house.

             4.          (go)               I don’t ______ to school by car. I ______ by bus.

             5.          (mop)           You don’t _____ the floor! You just sweep it, right?!

             6.          (clean)          Tono doesn’t _____ his house on Sunday. He ______ it on Friday.

             7.          (cook)           Susan doesn’t _____ breakfast every day. She ______ twice a year.

             8.          (run)            The car doesn’t _____ smoothly. It ______ jerkily. It needs a repair.

C.    Tulislah tentang diri dan orang dekat anda. Gunakan don’t/doesn’t jika perlu saja.

D.    Latih pelafalan. Bacalah kalimatmu di atas secara lantang. Jika perlu, rekamlah.

Ring ..ring… Hello… Is it you, Johny? Oh good. Yes, it’s me, Sam. Hey Johny, Listen. Huh.. my landlord is angry with me. He come here every week! He checks the house and always scold me.
